Prayer for the Devout

The tongue is meat

Meat, shining with spirit and saliva

Meat, trapped behind ivory

Meat, trapped behind convention

The tongue is meat

Which will sing across dark centuries

Which will sing across dark airwaves

Which will sing until ripped from skulls

The tongue is meat

Hear the prayer of meat

Hear the prayer across the air

Hear the prayer of the devout.

The tongue is meat.

Forget About It

Palimpsest,

A decorative word for erasure,

Which is a complicated word for whitewashing,

Which is a simple word for that which we have decided ...

Not only to pretend that we have not seen,

But that we have decided to forget,

And to paint over in those colors

We have decided to prefer.

Think That You Might Be Wrong

With each slab of concrete

You pour upon a field

You pour upon a farm

You pour across the world

Consider what seeds

Your concrete sows

And think that

You might be wrong.
